MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Alfonso "Al" Contreras

Alfonso Contreras has served as an elected official for many years. Al served a second term as Director and Board President of the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District. During his tenure on the Board, the Upper District has been awarded funding from the Bureau of Reclamation Title XVI, State Water resources Control Board, and the Metropolitan Water District for a total of over $54 million in Water Recycle Project Funds. Prior to being elected to the Upper District Board, he served as Director/President of the Valley County Water District, which serves parts of West Covina, Baldwin Park, Irwindale, and Azusa.
For the past 45 years, Contreras and his family have lived in the San Gabriel Valley. Contreras attended local schools in Baldwin Park, studied at Mount San Antonio College, and graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Education.
With solid work ethic and dedication, Contreras has worked for Southern California Edison for over 30 years and presently serves as Compliance Manager in the San Gabriel Valley. He is active in his church and assists Sister Cities locally, nationally and internationally. He also is dedicated to serving the needs of an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico.
Al will be a wonderful addition to the Rebuilding Together San Gabriel Valley Board of Directors.
